Scan settings

This topic describes scanning settings that are available for the Samsung SmartUX component.

These settings are configured on the General tab in the form settings. Select the Allow Changes check box next to any option to allow users to change the setting on the device console.

Setting Description
Background density Specifies the density level for the document:

  • Auto: Scans will use the setting configured on the MFP. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • -7 to 1: Select this option for a lighter scan.
  • 0 to 3: Select this option for a darker scan.
Color Mode

Indicates whether to scan the original in color or black and white mode:

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP.
  • Color: Scan in full color, regardless of whether the original is in color or in black and white. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • Gray Scale: Scan in gray scale, regardless of whether the original is in color or in black and white. Select this option to scan originals with many halftones, such as black and white photos.
  • Mono: Scan in monochrome.
Darkness

Specifies if the scan has a dark or light tone:

  • Default (from the MFP): Scans will use the setting configured on the MFP. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • -5 to -1: Select this option for lighter tones in the scan.
  • 0 to 5: Select this option for darker tones in the scan.
Duplex

Indicates whether to scan one or both sides of the original.

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP.
  • None: Scan one side of an original. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • Long edge: Scan both sides of an original in the same vertical orientation.
  • Short edge: Scan both sides of an original, rotate the second side.
File Format

Indicates the type of the file to save scanned data. The following file types are supported:

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP.
  • JPEG: A commonly used method of lossy compression for digital cameras. Suitable for saving photo data. JPEG is a single-image format.
  • PDF: Save to a Portable Document Format (PDF) document. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
Multi Page

Specifies whether a single capture should scan multiple pages. Multiple pages will be captured in a single PDF document or in multiple graphic (JPEG) files.

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • True: Multipage scanning is turned on.
  • False: Multipage scanning is turned off.
Original Orientation

Specifies the orientation of documents on the scanner.

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • Sideways: Originals are placed sideways on the scanner bed.
  • Upright: Originals are placed upright on the scanner bed.
Page Size

Indicates the size of paper being scanned.

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • A3 (Portrait)
  • A4 (Portrait)
  • A4 (Landscape)
  • Letter (Portrait)
  • Letter (Landscape)
Resolution

Specifies the scanning resolution:

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP.
  • High: Select this option to convert an original into a file of the maximum available size, which is 600 dpi.
  • Low: Select this option to the smallest possible file size with the lowest level of detail, which is 200 dpi.
  • Normal: Select this option to scan a standard original with intermediate level of detail and file size, which is 300 dpi. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
Single Scan

This settings controls whether to scan only a single page for each capture.

  • Default (from the MFP): Captures will use the setting configured on the MFP. This is the default setting for this scan setting.
  • True: Turns on single-scan capture.
  • False: Turns off single-scan capture
